We know that Facebook is moving at lighting speed to stay 20 steps ahead of the social networking game. Here’s a couple of other features that Facebook has in the works to do just that:

The ability to sort your friends and organize them into groups is an upcoming feature that nicely aligns with the objectives and functionality of Facebook. This will allow you to better determine who sees what kind of content, and simply offers more privacy options within your personal networks.

Another upcoming feature is the ability to read email messages in digest form, which means you can receive one single email with all of your notifications, sent to you on a daily basis. These are small tweaks, but good tweaks nonetheless. MySpace, Xing and Friendster have been modifying their profile pages for the better as well.

Sorting your friends into groups seem like an ideal platform for crushing egos.

I can just see it happen…Ok, Henre, you go into my “not so cool friend but I geel guilty to ditch you entirely” group.

I already feel guilty for not adding my 120 friends into my “top friends” app.

On a more serious note, think it bodes well for Facebook having the ability to categorise your contacts. Which is ultimately what they are, mostly contacts.

The combined e-mail is a good move. DaveD would be happy to solve one of his e-mail issues.

Facebook is doing this to compete with business social networks like Linkedin

You can sort your friends from your business contacts

I spell doom for Linkedin and xing

I try to steer clear of apps on Facebook. I will most certainly not install this new app and un-friend anyone who “sorts” me into any category.

    I’m an individual, damnit!!

Oh, and what’s the point of having one single email? Do they not realise how intoxicating it is to see that “1 new notification” on your “home page”?? It’s my crack cocaine.
