SA Government to extend RICA deadline

Published by on Nov 11th, 2010, 4 Comments

So you have still not RICA’d your cellphone number? Well, it seems you have a bit more time now. Government representative Themba Maseko mentioned on Wednesday that the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication Related Information Act would be extended another 6 months.

But dear readers of Bandwidth Blog – it only takes a few minutes of your time, so I reckon most people have done it? Just take a proof of residency (a municipal bill works), your ID and the SIM card you wish to register to just about any cellphone shop, and you are sorted. How hard can it be? RICA is here to help with the prevention of crime, so it is for a good cause.

Minnaar: Don’t forget to also take the SIM cards you want registered along as well! I think you only need the number on the SIM, but just take the whole thing with you.

    Literally takes less than 5minutes!

For some or other reason I either keep forgetting my ID or my utility bill.

Thank you government-people for extending the deadline.

    Now…must remember!

No, it’s to make sure the apparatus is in place to easily track citizens as they move about on their daily routines. They can only prevent crime if they are listening to everyone all the time.

Don’t RICA. Boycott this unconstitutional law.
