When Vodafone first began in 1984 it was a tiny UK start-up company. Now, it is the world’s leading mobile telecommunications company with a large presence in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the United States.
Vodafone’s headquarters in Porto, Portugal is a super modern and creatively abstract sight designed by Barbosa and Guimaraes Arquitectos. The building was the institutional category winner at the 2010 Arch Daily Awards. The architects’ intention was to reflect Vodafone’s attitude and philosophy in the slogan ‘Vodafone Life, Life in Motion’ with a building that “adopts a dynamic image, conveying the sense of movement and challenging the static”. Three of the angular building’s eight floors are underground and in addition to the the auditorium, the ground floor has a cafeteria and store.
