Inside Skype’s Stockholm Offices

When Skype’s offices in Sweden where bursting to capacity with room for only 35 employees, the software company decided it was time to expand. The team found new premises at the large and completely restored historical Munchen Brewery in Stockolm, big enough for all of its now 100 employees.

Architectural firm PS Arkitektur, lead by head architect Mette Larsson-Wedborn and his team, where given the task of creating a space that expresses Skype’s playful and innovative spirit. To accomplish this the designers used rounded shapes to reflect Skype’s well-known font and cloud logo, fun light fixtures and brightly coloured furniture. Triangular shapes found in the furniture and floor symbolize the nodes connected within a network and the custom-made wallpaper depicts the predominantly audio and video development world of the staff. The clean and relatively minimal layout creates a sense of open space and relaxation.
