Neotel Announces 24GB for R799 deal

Published by on Jan 16th, 2012, 8 Comments

Neotel might have gone silent in recent months (or their marketing team is not doing a great job), but their latest prepaid data deal is not bad at all. Neotel is offering their NeoGo package which includes 24GB of data for R799. Users will have the option of getting that 24GB upfront, or have it split up into 2GB per month for 12 months. This will also include Neotel’s CDMA modem.

So what is the catch? Firstly – that CDMA modem might not be of much use once the contract runs out. Even though it might not be network locked, Neotel says nothing about it being GSM compatible like the rest of SA 3G networks. Secondly – Neotel’s information on the contract is next to useless. There is no info on the brand of modem used, or the coverage offered. Neotel does not offer much in the way of coverage information on their website, and they require you to enter your complete address before they can tell you whether you will have coverage or not. In most cases it will not find the addresses we tried to enter into it. So it might be best to consider phoning them regarding coverage in your area.

The image below carries the extent of information available to customers interested in the NeoGo contract deal. Once more information becomes available we will update it here.

What they offer and what you end up getting is two totally different things. I’ve had Neotel unlimited for the past two years and the service is interrupted with Internet disconnection every few minute and when you finally have a stable connection they throttle your download from 150kb/s to 5kb/s within minutes. Their client Help desk is totally dysfunctional. Nothing nice to say about Neotel….

DO NOT USE NEOTEL….save yourself a HUGE headache.  Their speeds are truly, pitifully pathetic.

Can’t get Telkom line to new residence (Bruma JHB) no lines available. Previsouly had ADSL uncapped 1024MB line. Any ideas? Obviously Neotel a no go.

Never again. Used their service (non service) for a while in 2010. Contention seems to be a big problem. A friend figured that 2 years later, there would be an improvment so he just signed up with them. No surprises, their speeds is just as bad as before. One can only wonder how these guys became the SNO….

    NeoTel = USELESS.
What a farce! Use an 8ta prepaid package or something rather.

When the 24GB of Data runs out the internet becomes prepaid. You will have to buy Neotel airtime from one of these stores: Checkers, Pep, Mr. Price, Ster-kinekor, sasol elite, autopage selected, postnet selected, nashua mobile, Spar and etc.
To recharge, one has to to go neotel’s web address or phone the Neotel recharge service number. http://www.neotel.co.za
As I know, the datacard cant be used for another network yet.
The coverage work only in covered areas that are covered for mobile data service in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Cape Town.
    The make is ZTE corp.
The system uses CDMA2000 3G USB-Data Terminal (hereinafter referred to
    as Data Terminal).

Data Terminal supports both CDMA2000 1X EV-DO and CDMA2000 1X network. In the
area where there is signal, it allows you to go surfing on the Internet, send
    & receive short messages.

GIVE NEOTEL A BREAK, THEY HAVE DONE WELL FOR A NEW COMPANY & NEW PRODUCTS ARE SLOWLY COMING OUT.
