One of the benefits of Facebook’s Timeline layout is the ability for users to select a cover image to apply to their profile that serves to better express who they are, or at least, want other Facebook friends to think they are. Either way, it gives individuals the ability to personalise what was previously a relatively uniform and uninteresing feature.
Now, the cover image on profiles just got even more fun, with InstaCover, a third party service that enables users to use a collection of Instagram photos to express themselves as well.
The great thing is that the Instagram photos don’t even have to be yours. You can choose from your own photos, those that belong to a specific user (this requires their user ID), a specific category or any tags of your choice.
Once you’ve selected the images you want, you can tweak the appearance to your heart’s content. Choose the image size, spacing, add optional text to the cover, among other options, preview it and then save it to your Facebook photos. Once applied, the images appear as a cover at the top of your personalised profile page and you’ll notice that its branded with a small ‘Created with Insta-Cover.com’ stamp at the bottom right hand corner.
Users can also be playful with the image sizes like InstaCover does with the custom settings, and enlarge one or two special images.
The downside is that once you have previewed it, there is no way to remove one or more images and simply replace them with alternatives. Any images that you don’t like in the final product, are there to stay unless you’re willing to start from scratch.
For those who do not own an iPhone, and don’t have access to the the joys of Instagram, the service recently announced that it will be launching an Android version “soon”.
