Inside advertising network Shinka

Published by on Jul 17th, 2012, 2 Comments

Shinka, with offices located in scenic Stellenbosch, is an advertising network made by Africans for Africans. Shinka represents the biggest mobile community in Africa and can instantly reach diverse markets, with targeted campaigns on their mobile phones.

A relatively small company, Shinka has twelve staff members with a diversity of roles that compromise of sales, marketing, graphic design, development, traffic and accounting.

Shinka’s work involves digital advertising on web, email and mobile, full colour graphical campaigns, text campaigns via tagged sms’s and they also conduct research and surveys. Currently Shinka serves a billion impressions per month and growing.

Shinka has created campaigns for popular international and local brands including Nivea, Pond’s, Spar, Oxy and Pep. Shinka works directly with the agency to create a campaign strategy with the execution of each campaign booking made through their real time system. Real-time reporting is made available to both the agency and client through their dashboard.

Shinka was founded by current MD Paul Stemmet who has a dream to be the driving force for change in the South African advertising industry. With an Honours Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Information Systems from UCT, Paul has also held positions at World of Avatar and Mxit.

Paul says, “We are Africa’s first truly African advertising network exclusively representing the largest social network in Africa, Mxit. Working closely with our research partner Pondering Panda, allows us to use a hybrid technological and statistical advertising approach, to ensure advertisers and publishers receive the best performances for their campaigns and properties.”

Now, meet some of the people that make Shinka, the success it is today.

‘made by Africans for Africans’ – i know white south africans are also born in africa but one would expect, at the very least, a token darkie?

Please correct: “roles that compromise of sales, …” Either “roles that comprises sales etc. …” or “roles that consist of sales etc …”
