Samsung Electronics South Africa has announced the resignation of its Managing Director, Mr Deon Liebenberg – effective on 15 July 2012 already.

“Having spent the last year supporting Samsung’s substantial brand growth in the local market, I have decided that the time has come to move on. Samsung Electronics South Africa has a very strong and capable team, and over the past 12 months we have achieved the milestones I was originally tasked with – ensuring Samsung South Africa is a brand synonymous with innovation,” says Deon Liebenberg, MD of Samsung Electronics South Africa.

Says Mr. George Ferreira COO and Vice President at Samsung Electronics Africa; “We remain thankful for Deon’s contribution to the brand and are certain that the solid foundation created over the last 12 months will continue to garner positive growth and momentum for the brand locally. Samsung Electronics South Africa is supported by a very capable team and the expertise of our staff, together with the market partnerships that have been developed over this time, will continue to propel this brand forward in South Africa.”

Deon Liebenberg will be moving to Telkom Business Mobile. In his capacity as the Head of the Telkom Business Mobile, Mr Liebenberg will be responsible for driving strategy and execution for all mobile activities in Telkom Business. He will play a vital role in positioning Telkom as the leading provider of converged communication solutions in South Africa.

Telkom Business launched its mobile services in September 2011, marking another significant step on the company’s ongoing journey toward delivering fixed mobile convergence. More recently  Telkom Business unveiled its first converged bundled solutions for business customers, to bring together the best fixed and mobile solutions, on a single bill, from a single provider.

“We welcome Deon to Telkom and wish him all the best in managing his new challenging assignment. I have no doubt in my mind that his vast knowledge and experience will greatly benefit Telkom and Telkom Business,” says Dr Brian Armstrong, Managing Director of Telkom Business.

Bertus Samsung is hardly a seaworthy vessel. One just needs to look at the extremely hight staff turnover at Samsung to see that. He is far better off where he is now.
