Google’s smart glasses project known as Google Glass were showcased for the first time by people other than those who work at Google through the world of fashion.
Well known fashion designer, Diane von Furstenberg used the device to record preparations for her DVF Spring 2013 Fashion Show for New York Fashion Week. The designer continued to use the glasses during the show on Sunday that were worn by the models as they walked down the runway in her latest collection.
Both fashion and tech fans will have the opportunity to see what the glasses recorded through the DVF Google+ page and Google’s own YouTube channel when the footage is released in a short film called ‘DVF through Glass’ on 13th September.
At the show’s conclusion, Furstenberg and Yvan Mispelaere, creative director of DVF, who were both wearing Google Glass took a celebratory lap down the runway. Halfway down the left aisle, Furstenberg reached over to Google co-founder Sergey Brin who joined them for the remainder of the lap.
In a press release sent out before the event, Sergey Brin commented that “Beauty, style and comfort are as important to Glass as the latest technology. We are delighted to bring Glass to the runway together with DVF.”
