The latest smartphone/tablet hybrid has hit our shores. Samsung SA announced recently that the Galaxy Note 2 will be in South Africa soon, and this week it is officially available.

From today (2 October) the device can be picked up from Vodacom World, and from Friday, 5 October it will be available at other Vodacom retail outlets. Also, MTN has started taking orders for the Note 2 from 1 October.

MTN is offering the device on MTN Anytime 200 for R429 p/m over 24 months, which includes 250MB of data. If you want to purchase it by cash, you can do so for the recommended retails price of R7,400. The Vodacom price structure looks like the following:

  • Standard My Gig 1 at R389.00 per month;
  • Standard My Gig 2 at R429.00 per month;
  • Top Up Data Standard My Gig 1 at R389.00 per month;
  • Top Up Data Standard My Gig 2 at R429.00 per month.

Is this ‘phablet’ something you would be interested in?

    Been waiting only for it. As a Samsung Galaxy Note user already, this is the next best thing.. At upgrade time this is my move. Forget iPhone. .. This is really the ultimate at this point in time

    Exactly where is it hitting us all over?

    I have been to Vodaworld and they are guessing next week. Even their website says today, but looks like they are clueless.

    Actually, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Now we’ll see if those contracts pan out.

    What about talk time on the Vodacom contracts?

    My upgrade was on hold since June. Placed my order @ MTN 4 Galaxy note2 :-)

    The S3 is a great handset and I can’t wait to upgrade myself. Unfortunately MTN is the worst mobile provider one can select for Data bundles when on contract. There is no easy way of usage tracking and they don’t notify you. Just one week of usage can put you thousands of rand in negative as I found out. Just get the handset on prepaid or go to Vodacom which has much better bandwidth tracking.

    Or go to Cell C, where you can just type dial *101# to see all the info you need. Otherwise, use Onavo Count. It’s really accurate and always helps me out

    I would rather spend the extra few hundred rand and buy the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and use ANY other phone to talk on.

    Dear Friend you can check aswell as setup your data bundle usage if you go to settings > data usage> it gives the options for limits etc etc, or altenatively you can dial *141# on your phone and it will send u the exact amount of data available.
