As we all know, mobile is changing the way people receive and use content and is becoming the dominant force in technology. Even the gaming industry is suffering at the hands of cheap, fun mobile games.
In previous years only one smartphone a year was released by Google with the Nexus moniker. This year has seen that change, with the Nexus 7 tablet and also the newly announced LG Nexus 4 smartphone and the Samsung Nexus 10 tablet, which has a jaw-dropping screen. There are even rumours circulating that 4 or 5 OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) will be able to make a Nexus smartphone in conjunction with Google soon, including HTC, Sony and Motorola.
Nexus devices offer the smoothest performance on the Android platform and it seems the gaming companies are taking notice. Great games on the Android platform are few and far between in terms of graphics and story, but EA and Gameloft are looking to change that.
The companies announced that they would be optimizing games to work with the full range of Nexus devices. EA will optimize 13 games to play with the Nexus products, while Gameloft said that 10 of their games will even work on the Nexus 10’s 2560×1600 pixel display. The games include:
It’s great to see two leading companies trying to combat the Android problem of fragmentation. It does make sense for them to do so, since there are over 1 million Android activations per day at this stage. That’s a lot of prospective customers!
