WeChat, a cross platform messaging service, committed to providing a seamless communication service to all users has now been extended to Blackberry for OS 5.0 and 6.0 and above.

WeChat is already available as a free download for iOS, Windows Phone, Android and Symbian.

In this current 1.0 release, WeChat has included its core features including push to talk. While performance is one of the key focuses in this release, WeChat will be sure to provide additional features in future releases that are in line with its vision to make WeChat “the new way to connect”.

According to Brett Loubser, WeChat Africa Specialist ”Blackberry is still a strong name and there are still a lot of high end business users using it right now. As such, WeChat is dedicated towards providing a dominant cross platform presence by making sure we are available on the platforms that the users demand.”

Developed by Tencent, China’s largest internet service portal, WeChat has already seen tremendous growth, now totalling 300 million users, with the last 100 million users added in the last 5 months.

Features of the new version include:

• Instant Messaging: send and receive messages in real time across different mobile platforms.
• Voice Messaging: Simple one touch voice message delivery for no typing effortless communication.

• Group Chat: chat with up to 40 friends at the same time.

• Photo Sharing: snap photos and share them directly with your friends or select them from your album to share.

WeChat’s goal is to develop a robust communications platform and while there are no future plans to develop on new platforms, now that BlackBerry has joined the other major mobile platforms, close attention is being paid to the feedback of the users.
