If you managed to sit through the entire 2013 Oscars ceremony in L.A. be it at 3am on Monday morning or the repeat on Monday night you will have seen Inocente win the prestigious golden statue award in the category of Best Documentary (Short Subject).
You may have even sat through the acceptance speech. What you may not know about this film is that it was funded by 294 backers on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

While Inocente had already been completed and won two awards, in June and July 2012 the film raised a total of $52,527 on Kickstarter to pay the film’s deferred costs and to complete final deliverables.
While this is not the first film or Oscar nominated film that has featured on Kickstarter, it is the first to win. Other Oscar nominated films this year include Kings Point and Buzkashi Boys - the fourth, fifth and sixth Kickstarter projects to be nominated.
