‘Google Edition’ Sony Xperia Z coming

This doesn’t really come as a surprise, since we already heard in the last couple of weeks that both Samsung and HTC also have this strategy. Their flagships, the Galaxy S4 and the One, will both launch a version with stock Android. Sony has announced that the Xperia Z competing flagship will get the same “Nexus” treatment.

Google’s Nexus brand name has now started to gain some traction in the market after the success of the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 7 tablet. More people want that vanilla Android experience than ever before, and the manufacturers are now giving consumers that option.

We think this is great, as no OEM has ever been able to match stock Android’s performance, simplicity and beauty (in our opinion). The Sony does seem to be suited the best of these three devices to receive the ‘Nexusification’, if you will, because it only uses on-screen keys and does not have hardware buttons at the front like the other two.

How well these three phones will sell remains to be seen, but there has never been a better time to be a consumer as we are now truly spoilt for choice. Would you consider buying a Xperia Z ‘Google Edition’, or either of the other two, for that matter?
