According to Tech Crunch, a source close to the matter has revealed that popular photo sharing app Instagram will let users take and share videos, similiar to Twitter’s Vine service.
Since its launch in January Vine has rapidly risen in popularity, surpassing Instagram’s daily shares on the micro blogging site according to statistics provided by Free Analytics service Topsy.
This is not the first we have heard of a possible video feature for Instagram with a report by Matthew Keys having surfaced a few weeks ago, revealing that it was allegedly being tested internally.
According to an insider, the feature would allow users to upload short video clips from their smartphones to Instagram, about 5 to 10 seconds long.
The announcement for the new feature is expected to take place on Thursday 20th June at Facebook’s press event in Menlo Park, California.
According to the invite, the event will include a “new product” launch by the social network that has just recently introduced its new hashtag feature.
