iPhone 5S and 5C SA Pricing Revealed

Well, the day has finally arrived for Apple fans. The new iPhone 5S is now available in SA – and Vodacom and MTN have also revealed their pricing for the new phones.

We are quite happy to see that many of the vendors have stepped with earlier hours on launch day, and needless to say lines have formed in front of the relevant stores. For example, here is Vodaworld in Midrand this morning:

First up is MTN, who seems to have pretty aggressive pricing, with decent data bundles compared to previous years:

MTN Package Airtime Data Bundle SMS iPhone 5C iPhone 5S
16GB 32GB 16GB 32GB 64GB
AnyTime 100 R100 300MB 25 R279 R329 N/A N/A N/A
AnyTime 200* R200 500MB 200 R379 R429 R429 479 R529
AnyTime 350* R350 650MB 350 R499 R549 R549 599  R649
AnyTime 500 R500 1000MB 500 R699 R749 R749 799 R849
AnyTime 750 R750 1250MB 750 R949 R999 R999 R1,049 R1,099

Next up is Vodacom with more granular choices:

Vodacom contract deals iPhone 5s iPhone 5c
16GB 32GB 64GB 16GB
Smart S (75min, 200MB Data, 200SMS) R469 R529 N/A R399
Smart M (120min, 300MB, 300SMS) R569 R629 R679 R499
Smart L (250min, 500MB, 500SMS) R699 R799 R879 R629
Smart XL (400min, 800MB, 800SMS) R869 R949 R999 R799
Red Advantage (700min, 1GB, No limit SMS) R999 R1,199 R1,299 R999
Red Premium (1200min, 1,6GB, No limit SMS) R1,599 R1,599 R1,799 R1,599
Red VIP (No limit min, 2GB data, No limit SMS) R1,999 R1,999 R1,999 R1,999

In our opinion the networks can start focussing less on the number of SMS’s, and rather the data bundles.

Vodacom is also selling the phone for cash for those with deeper pockets:

  • R8899 for the iPhone 5C 16GB
  • R10 499 for the iPhone 5s 16GB
  • R11 799 for the iPhone 5s 32GB
  • R13 299 for the iPhone 5s 64GB

Right now Cell C and Telkom Mobile has not released their official pricing, but we will post it the moment we have it…

R8900 for the iPhone 5C. Shocking.

Agreed. Also, which other flagship phone costs R13,300?!

Apple taking their junkies for another ride…

        • Jaco van der Walt

Agreed. But I think Vodacom and MTN are taking Saffas for an even bigger ride! The phone costs R8500 (64GB). Who gets the remaining R4800? Import costs? Vodacom & MTN? Government…. :)

SHOCKING, the phone is only $99 in the US!

      • Theunis Jansen van Rensburg

No, that’s on contract. It costs $549 off contract. That’s more than a R3000 difference.

    Hope FNB offers it soon
