Apple Spaceship Campus

When you’re the biggest company in the world and the money just keeps rolling in, you most certainly deserve massive, grand-scale, completely-over-the-top headquarters.

Apple’s so-called ‘Spaceship Campus’ has been under construction for over a year now, and by the looks of things, the mega tech company is definitely not playing around with construction and looks set to meet their deadline.

The plans for Apple’s huge new campus was only approved a mere 18 months ago, but by the looks of things you would think that the grounds have been under construction for much longer. The company has said that they hope to officially open the doors to Apple’s new home in 2016. (more…)

Airbnb’s conference room is modeled after a 1964 cult-classic

Airbnb has raised a lot of money in venture capital. $326 million to be exact. And with that, they decided to pimp out their offices to quite some extent.

Founded in 2008, Airbnb is an online service, kind of like a social network, that provides a platform for people to rent unoccupied living space and other lodging. The spaces and lodging available for rent are generally targeted at people wanting to rent a venue or space for a private party.

Now, instead of following suit from other tech startups and g for the ever popular open-plan workspace, Airbnb drew some inspiration from pop culture.

The company decided to build a conference room for their software developers that is modeled after the iconic War Room in the Stanley Kubrick directed cult-classic, Dr. Strangelove. (more…)

Envato, the Australian company that specializes in online marketplaces including ThemeForest, Microlancer and Tuts+, has just received an office make-over, and it sure makes us a little envious!

The company’s headquarters is situated in Melbourne’s central business district. The three story building has quite the heritage – it was a school before it was converted into Envato’s HQ and, before the school, it was used as a storage facility for Ferguson’s Winery.

The re-design was done by Buro architects. Envato says that the guys at Buro completely understood their vision and translated their ideas into beautiful, yet functional spaces.  (more…)

Amazon’s planned new HQ

Published by on Oct 29th, 2013, No Comments

The world’s largest online retailer, Amazon, is planning a amazingly big and out-there new office building and retail campus that might even rival Apple’s planned ‘spaceship’ campus.

Amazon’s planned new HQ will consist of an astonishing 3.3 million square foot office and retail campus. The design is also unlike anything the world has seen – massive glass buildings, in the shape similar to that of a soccer ball, will house Amazon’s employees and stores.

Amazon has coined the term ‘biodome’ for their new campus. The 5-story biodome will reach up to 29-meters.

The glass spheres were specifically chosen to create an alternative work environment for the employees. And, of course, to stand out above any other building – thus, creating an Amazon landmark.

With the 3.3 million square foot campus already under construction, Amazon has just been given the preliminary go-ahead by Seattle’s City Design Review Board.

Although preliminary authorization has been given, it can still take up to 6 weeks for a legal building permit to be issued. (more…)
