Seagate Wireless Plus Review: Pocketsize entertainment

Published by on Sep 4th, 2014, No Comments

Sea_004Storage comes in many shapes and forms these days. From ultra fast solid state hard drives to online cloud storage the average user today has a multitude of options when it comes to storing documents, family photos or videos of cats acting crazy. Do you remember the 3.5 inch “stiffies” or even their older brothers the “floppy” disks? Since the birth of computing, storage has been an integral part of the experience and even though the availability of disk space seems to double every few years we just can’t get enough.

Selling hard drives, externals or any type of storage media was almost a sure thing in the past. Nowadays manufacturers have to come up with bigger (storage space), faster and smaller (in dimension) products to keep up with their competitors. But what if you were to step out of this paradigm set? What if you can bring portable storage with a twist? The Seagate Wireless Plus does just that, it’s the little entertainment hub that fits in your pocket. (more…)

ASUS Transformer Book V: Laptop hybrid with docked Android phone

If there is one company that has completely against the grain in recent years with their electronic gadgets, it’s ASUS. Recently they have released multiple Padfones – devices that are tablets with a dock in the back which houses a smartphone. These two worked together and separately as well, like smartphones and tablets would normally.

Now, they are taking the brave idea in a new direction. The company has taken a laptop, which can also be converted into a tablet, but also houses a smartphone. Wait, what? (more…)

Samsung sticks to same recipe for new ads

Galaxy Tab S

When it comes to advertising, Samsung seems to follow the mantra “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. The mega company has used the same template for all of the adverts in the last year or so. And that template is simple: trash Apple.

There’s no denying that the Samsung/Apple rivalry is one of the biggest in the modern age, and we’re sure that the competition between these two will go on for years to come. However, Samsung’s tactic of bashing the competition in literally almost every advert, is becoming, well, boring.

For their two new ads promoting the Galaxy S tablet, Samsung takes on Apple’s iPad yet again and are out to prove that the Galaxy S IS better than the iPad and we must now accept it once and for all.

The first ad centers around the iPad’s inability to multi-task. With the Galaxy S, however, it;s super easy to to multiple things at the same time on your tablet. Where as with the iPad, this functionality is absent.  (more…)

Nvidia releasing a gaming tablet?

Published by on Jul 3rd, 2014, No Comments

NVIDIA-Shield-TabletStrong rumours have emerged that Nvidia has a gaming tablet in the pipeline. Recently the graphics chip maker has seen another one of its documents leaked on the internet providing conformation of the upcoming device. A certification registered last week with the Global Certification Forum (GCF) provides the most compelling evidence yet, as reported by Android Community. The Nvidia “Shield Tablet” might be arriving sooner rather than later…

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Review: Sony comes out swinging

Published by on Jul 1st, 2014, 2 Comments

Z2_Tablet__018The last year and a half has seen some stiff competition in the mobile market. Companies such as LG and Sony have been going toe to toe with their two big brothers, Samsung and Apple. Sony’s Z series, LG’s G series and even the HTC One series have steadily been gaining market share across every mobile product area. This type of environment puts pressure on the participating companies’ sales teams, but we as consumers are smiling all the way being spoilt for choice and price. Competition remains the fiercest in the smartphone market, but we are seeing the same fight spilling over into the tablet market. Sony has come out swinging with the new Xperia Z2 tablet, taking on the currently undefeated (my opinion) king of the tablet ring, the Apple iPad. Will the Z2 put up a decent fight? (more…)

The Microsoft Surface tablet is becoming a more compelling buy with every iteration. Microsoft is definitely pitching this as a device that will replace your laptop. This means that it is priced like some laptops, as well, and not as a tablet. The Core i7 Surface Pro 3 is now available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store in both 256GB and 512GB variants, starting at $1,549. It is expected to ship at the end of August.

The $799/£639 64GB Core i3 model will ship at around the same time as its higher-spec brother, although the Core i5 versions of the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro Type Cover, Surface Pen and Pen Loop will make their way to you a little earlier, shipping by June 20th. (more…)

HTC-made Nexus 8 reportedly launching in Q3

The Nexus program is the Android purist’s dream – the way Android intended Google at bargain prices. There may be a couple of potential changes on the horizon, however.

There have been rumours that the Nexus program may be coming to an end soon, but Google does apparently still have plans for a couple new Nexus devices this year. This is now apparently not the case, with a rumoured Nexus 8 tablet in the works. The time around, it won’t be made by Asus, but HTC. (more…)

Apple fan’s depiction of the iPad in 2004 is surprisingly accurate

It’s hard to think that the iPad has only been around for 4 years. Apple’s landmark device set the tone for all other companies to also start making tablets. And now, with iPads and the various other tablets available being such an integral part of our world, it’s good to take a look back at the world before tablets.

Recently, The Next Web came across an old concept forum on the popular MacRumors website dating back to 2004. Here, some Apple fan created an render of what he thought would be Apple’s ‘next big thing’.

And surprisingly, he was almost spot on. The fan created his own interpretation of (what he called) the iPad.  (more…)
