Video: Facebook “inventor”

Published by on Sep 9th, 2007, 6 Comments

Aaron Greenspan made the front page of the NY Times business section recently. The story written by John Markoff said Aaron claimed to be “the one who created the original college social networking system,” which eventually became Facebook. Aaron was interviewed by Vator.tv where he explains the “influence” he had in the early days of building Facebook. Aaron also shares a little about his new venture called Qubescape, which he calls a “Facebook for companies.” Aaron said it launches at the end of this month.

New Delicious design

Published by on Sep 7th, 2007, 2 Comments

Techcrunch managed to get an exclusive look at the upcoming Delicous 2 site. There are numerous new features, and Delicious says that they have done a complete code rewrite this time around. One of the most notable things, however, is that they are dropping the Del.icio.us branding: they are moving to Delicious.com instead of the Del.icio.us that we’re all used to.

Here are some of the new features aside from the upcoming name change and new layout:

* There are four main categories on the Delicioius site: Home, Bookmarks, People and Tags
* New sorting options
* Bulk tag editing…thank goodness!
* Autocomplete on the tag bar
* Organize and sort your friends
* New search engine with contextual search – search your own bookmarks, all bookmarks, or a network of bookmarks

The Delicious 2 preview page is available, but you have to be invited before you can login. I wouldn’t search around too hard for an invite though, because any changes you make on the preview service will be lost once the new design goes live.

So I think the more important question is what do you think about them changing the name?

Recently marked the 8th birthday of Google’s blogger service, Google took the time to reflect on the popularity of the service and break out some baby pictures. A lot has changed since Evan Williams (He sold to Google and started Odeo,Twitter) launched the service in 1999.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past four-fifths of a decade, and thanks especially to you for all the blogs.

New Digg design goes live

Published by on Aug 28th, 2007, No Comments

After a premature exposure earlier today, the all new Digg design is up and running. As promised, there’s a new “All” tab plus cleaner navigation. The images section has yet to appear; based on Rose’s recent posts, October is the latest you can expect that, and hopefully before.

Orkut redesign

Published by on Aug 26th, 2007, 1 Comment

The second largest social network on the web has completed a ‘redesign’, adding new icons and some blue rounded corners. Comscore proves that Orkut has the second largest user base of people ‘networking’ online although they don’t seem to care. The new look is hardly a step up from the previous dull interface and no new functionality to report of.

From the official Orkut blog

When you think Google, you picture primary colors; when you think orkut, you see blue. And though we’re updating the look, we’re staying true to blue. We’ve added some rounded corners and new icons that make orkut look a little more sleek and modern. Check out a screen shot of the new homepage.

Mashable web2.0 market place

Published by on Aug 14th, 2007, No Comments

This week Mashable is soft-launching a much needed addition to their ever growing network: a single place to buy, sell and trade modern websites, services and more.

Increasingly, companies are listing themselves on eBay and other marketplaces, but telling us they got more leads from Mashable. Pligg, for example, told us about the sale before anyone else. Or folks are trying to sell their Facebook applications, provide development services for Facebook applications and MySpace widgets, looking for suitable job candidates, looking to advertise their events and so on. Clearly, there needs to be a single point for all this activity.
