And the results are good… Apple shifted a total of 2.94 million Macs, an increase of 33% from last year, compared to an increase of 25% for the overall PC industry. However, iPhone is clearly Apple’s standout device. (Let me be the first to point out that Apple is still only 3.6 percent of the entire industry…)
A total of 8.75 million iPhones were sold worldwide, which is an increase of 131% growth over last year. Well, so which parts of Apple’s product line did not do well? iPods dropped about 1% from last year – but that is still 10.89 million of them sold. Apple also still insists that the Apple TV is a “hobby”…
“We’re thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter ever, with revenues up 49 percent and profits up 90 percent,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve launched our revolutionary new iPad and users are loving it, and we have several more extraordinary products in the pipeline for this year.”
“Looking ahead to the third fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue in the range of about $13.0 billion to $13.4 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share in the range of about $2.28 to $2.39,” says Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO.

According to a review posted on Cult of Mac last week, the new iPhone OS4 beta preview user interface is still fairly buggy, with unexpected behaviour and crashes resulting from certain operations. Hopefully these bugs will be ironed out before the new operating system is released to consumers later this year.
Here are some of the new features of iPhone OS4 that were highlighted by the Cult of Mac reviewer:

Steve Jobs, wearing his customary black polo-neck, yesterday gave the market a preview of Apple’s iPhone OS4 software. Over 100 new features will be available to iPhone and iPod Touch users when the software update is released around the middle of the year.
Not all features will work on all devices – for instance, multitasking will only run on the iPhone 3GS or third-generation iPod Touch.

Gene Munster, analyst at the US investment banking firm Piper Jaffray, has estimated that as many as 700,000 iPads were sold this weekend (that figure includes pre-orders), more than double his pre-launch forecast. Original predictions for the iPad’s opening-weekend sales ranged from 200,000 to 400,000, depending on which analyst you spoke to. If Munster is correct, that means that the iPad launch is likely to prove significantly more successful than the launch of the original iPhone – it took Apple over 70 days to move 1 million units of the iPhone when it launched in 2007.
Prior to the iPad’s launch on Saturday, research company iSuppli predicted that global sales would hit 7.1 million by the end of 2010, doubling to 14.4 million in 2011, and almost tripling to 20.1 million in 2012.

Here’s a preview of Opera Mini on the iPhone, including a feature overview and a real world speed test. Apple seems likely to reject the Opera app, because they have previously blocked submissions that duplicate the capabilities of the iPhone’s built-in apps (in this case Safari). However, the Opera team said they are confident their new browser will be approved for the iPhone. We are not so sure.
One thing that’s sure though is the Opera Mini browser is lighting fast.
How I here you cry? Well, the Opera browser loads web pages rapidly by using a technology called server-side rendering, which compresses most aspects of a Web site on a server, sometimes reducing the load time of 90 percent of a Web page, before sending the data along to a phone’s browser. You love online poker, and now that you have your fancy new iPhone you want to play poker on it, as well you should. Fortunately for you there are a number of exciting poker apps for the iPhone, each differing depending on the kind of poker you like to play. Here’s a breakdown:
Video Poker on the iPhone: Jacks or Better iPhone Poker
If video poker is your thing, iPhone has you covered with Jacks or Better iPhone poker. This simple app plays just like the real thing, allowing you to play up to five credits at once to win. Payouts occur according to a standard pay table, and you can draw as many cards as you want one time to improve your hand just like in the casino.
Friendly Poker on the iPhone: Apple Texas Hold’em
The first poker application many iPhone users find themselves experimenting with is Apple Texas Hold’em. This is a great app for those who want to kill a little time by themselves or with friends.
The graphics are high quality and the game play is smooth, and you can play against computer opponents or a group of friends who also have the application. You can make full use of the touch screen with Apple Texas hold’em to move chips around or select your actions with just one finger.
Online Poker on the iPhone: Zynga Live Poker
When you’re ready for the iPhone poker big leagues, it’s time to download Zynga. Zynga is as close to an online poker site as you can possibly get from your iPhone wireless device. You can join a variety of games with iPhone players from all over the world, including players linked to social networks like Facebook and MySpace.
It’s important to be aware that you can’t play for real money; Zynga has the functionality for it but Apple doesn’t allow wireless gambling on their mobile devices. Still, you can get a full interactive poker experience using Zynga, and if you want to work out privately with your competitors what your virtual chips are worth, that’s entirely up to you.
There is a Facebook 3.0 app for the iPhone thas arrived and is awaiting the App store approval. The latest version looks like the full Facebook but with a cleaner, snappier and bug-free interface.

Some great features have been added to the application and that includes the all new News Feed that imitates the web based version, very well. There’s also the Like feature in full swing, but for it, Facebook is expected to fix the notification system so that a user doesn’t get bombarded with notifications after ‘liking’ something. Other than these there’s access to events, too. They include the ability to RSVP but there is still no access to the event’s wall.
The iPhone users can edit notes but cannot tag people in notes. They can now create new albums and upload photos to them, zoom in photos and can even have an album of profile pictures. You can quickly text friends directly from the friends page and all the messages you type will be restored in case there is an interruption to your connection.
To top it all there is a new homescreen that ensures easy access to all your stuff, search and notifications.
We think we’ll give it a try in here and let you know!
