Galaxy S7 and LG G5 to include an iris scanner

Interestingly enough, as far back as 2013 we heard rumours of Samsung planning to bring an iris scanner to its flagship smartphone. It sounds funny when you read it now, but a couple of years ago we actually thought it was a possibility that Samsung would include this feature in the then rumoured Galaxy S5.
Of course, we have come a long way since then and never again did we hear any news in the smartphone world (of any substance, at least) that we can expect it somewhere else. Only time will tell if this rumour is just a funny in a couple of years‘ time.
New sources claim that both Samsung and LG are planning to include an iris scanning sensor in its upcoming 2016 models of the respective flagships. They would utilise the front camera, as well as infrared sensors, to recognize faces and irises inside eyes, with the help of 3D images.
The advance of mobile technology has always felt like the closest tangible way for us mere mortals to feel more like a 007 or Jason Bourne, and this is no different. It seems that sensor technology is moving forward rapidly ““ fingerprint scanners are only now becoming common place ““ so we can‘t wait to see what is next.
