There has been a lot of speculation whether or not Apple is working on an iPhone mini, which would revamp the iPhone “C” range as the iPhone 6C. The previous models aimed to bring Apple smartphones to a budget minded crowd, all under a smaller iPhone 5s-like chassis. Other rumors have claimed in the past that the project has been ditched a long time ago. So what is actually happening?
Analysts are now telling investors not to bet on the smaller iPhone happening this year, and site credible supply chain sources. It seems that Apple ditched the project since March, and that the argument has everything to do with the current iPhone 6. The reason for this is that Apple doesn’t have a good track record in launching a budget model alongside a flagship model (as we saw with the iPhone 5s and 5c). Apple’s fear is that an iPhone 6c would canabalise all of the great sales being experienced under the current 6 model.
Of course nothing has yet been officially confirmed and we don’t see Apple ever completely removing the possibility of another budget smartphone. We just won’t be seeing one very soon. We will keep an eye out for further rumors.
