Over the last couple of weeks we have received a multitude of leaks regarding the Nexus 5X, one of the two 2015 Nexus devices, this one built by LG. We spoke about the rumoured specs in our latest episode of Bandwidth Blog On Air, and much of the speculation was spot on.
Yesterday, September 29th, Google finally took the wraps off the devices at their latest launch event. Other than this Nexus, they also released the Nexus 6P and the first Android tablet built end-to-end by Google, the Pixel C tablet.
The Nexus 5X is slightly less powerful than the phablet Nexus 6P, but it also means that it is cheaper. Even though it is not at the bleeding edge of hardware specs, it is no slouch and can definitely not be classified as a mid-ranger. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU, the same one you‘ll find the LG G4 and Moto X. It has 2GB of RAM and a 12.3MP rear facing camera with laser-assisted autofocus, dual flash, and this camera is even capable of shooting 4K video.
The Nexus 5X will also ship with Google‘s new Sensor Hub chip. This is designed to keep notification and fitness statistics without adding additional stress to the processor, in turn improving battery life and performance. It also has a 2,700mAh battery and 16BG or 32GB storage options. It has a USB Type-C port as well, something that will become very common in new phone releases, and of course we have that fingerprint sensor at the back. It also ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
It will cost you $379, which is a great price for such a capable device.
