Apple co-founder Steve Jobs contemplated building an ‘Apple Car’ as recently as 2008, according to his former adviser Tony Fadell.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Fadell, who was the head of Apple’s iPod division between 2001 and 2010, stated that he had multiple discussions with Jobs imagining what features an Apple car could bring to the market.
“We had a couple of walks… If we were to build a car, what would we build? What would a dashboard be? And what would this be? What would seats be? How would you fuel it or power it?” Fadell said.
According to Fadell, Jobs elected not to move forward with the idea at the time, instead focusing the company’s efforts on the iPhone.
Further to Fadell’s statements, Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller disclosed in a 2012 court case that Apple executives had held a discussion on building a car before the original iPhone launched in 2007.
