In the digital age, taking pictures and sharing them on Facebook has proven easy enough, yet sharing and distributing them has proven to be the more difficult task.
Facebook, fresh from introducing the Notify app and Music Stories last week, has begun testing a new feature dubbed Photo Magic.
Photo Magic forms part of the Messenger Platform, and serves to notify you whenever you’ve taken a picture of one of your Facebook friends; this is done through facial recognition matches within the site’s database. Think tagging on a whole new level.
Once you’ve taken an image of a friend, Messenger, using Photo Magic, will automatically send the image via a message to the friend in question. If the photo is of a group, Messenger will instead create a group thread and post the images within it.
Photo Magic is the latest effort by Facebook to bring more features to the Messenger platform. While users can opt-out, Facebook hopes that by making Messenger more photo-centric that it will be far more able to compete against the likes of Snapchat.
Presently, Photo Magic is being beta tested in Australia, but is expected to roll out internationally soon.
