Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has elaborated on several impending changes to the social network, specifically the move to an algorithmic timeline.
Twitter has faced an interesting start to 2016, with rumors surrounding the fact that the social network is not only in dire straits financially speaking, but also intends to drop its conversational timeline in favor of an algorithmic one. Now, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has stepped up to clear the air.
Reports earlier this year suggested that Twitter would drop its trademark 140 character limit in favour of a 10,000 character limit, and a new report from Buzzfeed this weekend cited that the social network intended to replace is conversational timeline with an algorithmic one.

Essentially put, this would mean, if true, each users timeline would display as a highlight reel similar to Facebook’s News Feed, and would show certain popular tweets at the expense of entire conversations.
Twitter users where less than impressed with this move, quickly adopting the hashtag #RIPTwitter.
Now, in a new series of tweets, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has confirmed that such a shakeup won’t be happening and that Buzzfeed’s report was false.
I *love* real-time. We love the live stream. It’s us. And we’re going to continue to refine it to make Twitter feel more, not less, live!

Previously, in the BuzzFeed report, NBC News’ Director of Branded Content, Josh Sternberg, cited that an algorithmic timeline would require a user to opt-in.
