Despite recent assurances from CEO Jack Dorsey, the Twitter algorithmic timeline has begun a worldwide rollout, and is presently opt-in.
Following on from rumours this month – and despite CEO Jack Dorsey’s assurances – a new Twitter algorithmic timeline has begun a worldwide rollout.
The update, which will transform Twitter timelines from conversational structure into one similar to Facebook’s News Feed, where an algorithm determines which stories should be shown to users, has been a contentious topic on the social network.

Previously, in protest, Twitter users tweeted under the trending hashtag #RIPTwitter to signify their disappointment with the social network’s decision.
Users will be required to opt-in to the new timeline through toggling “Show me the best tweets first” under Settings. Twitter has confirmed it has plans to switch all users over to the new timeline in the coming weeks.
Allegedly, only Tweetdeck and Twitter for Mac will remain unaffected by the impending changes.
The company is scheduled to post their earnings report today, as CEO Dorsey struggles to entice new users to the service.
