RIP Xbox 360. Microsoft has decided to discontinue production of the now legend Xbox 360 console.

After a decade of proving entertainment to millions Microsoft‘s Phil Spencer (head of Xbox) announced that it is ending production of the Xbox 360 console. The console has had a long and interesting history, from tons of redesigns to the overheating RROD (red ring of death) issues the console will not soon be forgotten.
The console was launched in November 2005 and has since sold more than 80 million units worldwide. The console established now almost cult-like gaming franchises like Halo, Gears of War and Forza.

Spencer wrote in a blog post – “Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft, and while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles.”
Microsoft will continue to sell off its existing inventory of 360 consoles, of which availability will vary across different countries. The company has however confirmed that it will keep the Xbox Live services running on the outgoing console, allowing users to play multiplayer, form parties as well as Xbox Live store specials through Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.

This move was inevitable with the new generation Xbox One leading the charge. The 360 will however live on through backwards compatibility on current generation systems and Xbox games available on Windows 10.
